Light
Pilea Plants thrive in bright, indirect light. A position near a sunny window is ideal, although direct afternoon sunlight should be avoided as it can scorch the delicate leaves.
Rotate your Pilea every week or two to encourage even growth. Like many plants, it will naturally grow towards its light source, so regular rotation helps maintain its balanced, rounded shape.
Water
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry out between waterings. When the soil has dried, water thoroughly and allow any excess water to drain away.
Tip: Pileas don't like sitting in soggy soil. If the leaves begin to curl, droop or develop yellow patches, check the moisture level before reaching for the watering can.
Soil & Pot
Pilea Plants prefer a light, well-draining potting mix that allows good airflow around their roots. A quality indoor potting mix with additional drainage material works well.
Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating around the roots. Because Pileas have a relatively compact root system, they don't need an oversized planter.
Temperature & Humidity
Pileas enjoy warm, stable indoor conditions and generally perform well in average household humidity. Keep them away from cold draughts, heaters and air-conditioning vents.
They appreciate moderate humidity but don't require a particularly humid environment to thrive.
Growth & Maintenance
Pilea Plants typically grow to around 30–40cm tall and wide, creating a naturally rounded, upright shape. Given the right conditions, mature plants will produce small offsets, or "pups", around the base of the plant.
These can be left in place to create a fuller display or carefully separated and replanted once established.
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves as needed and wipe the foliage occasionally with a soft, damp cloth to keep the leaves looking fresh.
Feed with a balanced indoor plant fertiliser during spring and summer to encourage healthy new growth.
